Rob Edwards, the screenwriter of the popular animated films ‘Treasure Planet’ and ‘The Princess and the Frog’, will make his directorial debut with ‘Sneaks’. According to Variety, Len Hartman and Gil Cloyd of Lengi Studios and Laurence Fishburne and Helen Sugland of Cinema Gypsy Productions are producing the animated film. Meko Yohannes will be the executive producer with Robyn Klein and Jeremy Ross.
“Sneaks,” written by Edwards, centers on Ty, a lost and one-of-a-kind designer sneaker that doesn’t know life outside the comfort of its velvet-lined shoebox. He follows Ty’s adventures when he ventures to New York to find his sister, stolen by a shady collector.
Fishburne, who will also play The Collector’s character in the film, said he was “thrilled” to be on board the project.
“I am delighted to be a part of this project and to bring the lively world of ‘Sneaks’ to life. There is an amazing and talented group of people involved and it is a pleasure to work alongside them, ” he said. Edwards said that ‘Sneaks’ for him was a ‘hip-hop’ version of Pixar’s much-loved ‘Toy Story’ animated film franchise.
“I try to make films that my whole family will enjoy, and ‘Sneaks’ has heart, humor, friendship and themes that I hope will connect with people. It’s both classic and contemporary and I can’t wait for people to see it come to life, ”he said.
